Much like your engagement ring, a wedding band is a timeless and evergreen piece of jewellery. You will be wearing this (almost) everyday, and you want to take care of it in the best way possible. We’ve compiled a list of ring-care tips for your wedding ring & band.

WEDDING RING TIPS

Remove your ring during certain activities

The last thing you want to hear about one of your most prized and symbolic possessions is to remove it, but honestly, it’s the best piece of advice we can give.

To avoid damage or loss, remove your rings when engaging in activities like cleaning, gardening, cooking, and sports. Especially if you’ve opted for a thinner and dainty band.

Store your rings properly

Tying into the first tip, when you are not wearing your rings, store them in a safe place. You can keep them in their original jewellery box, on a ring holder or in a protective pouch. Keep it somewhere memorable!

Clean your rings regularly

Your rings can get dirty from daily wear, so it’s important to clean them regularly (we recommend every 1-2 weeks to protect them from build up).

You can clean them with mild soap, warm water, and a soft-bristled brush. Avoid using abrasive cleaners that can scratch the metal or damage the gemstones.

It’s suggested to get your ring cleaned at least once, if not twice a year, professionally. It is always recommended to go back to your original jewellers, who will likely offer this service for free.

ADDITIONAL TIP
Remember to get your ring professionally cleaned before your wedding day. Your photographer & videographer will likely be taking tons of close ups, and you want it looking squeaky clean and shiny.

Insure the ring!

The age-old guide was always to spend 3 months of your salary on an engagement ring. Whilst this is extremely subjective, and there is no real norm or guide other than “do what works for you”; the point is, your ring is likely expensive!

Be sure to insure the ring as soon as you get engaged.

Have your rings resized, if needed

If your rings are too loose or too tight, have them resized by a professional jeweller as soon as possible. Wearing rings that are the wrong size can cause discomfort, and can increase the risk of losing them.

A TEMPORARY SOLUTION

Avoid exposing your ring to harsh chemicals

Chlorine and other chemicals found in pools and hot tubs can be harsh on your rings, causing them to become discolored or damaged. Soap residue and oils from your skin can also build up on your rings in the shower, making them look dull.

Additionally, cleaning chemicals and bleach can damage the metal and stones, causing them to become discoloured or even corroded.
