Get The Look: The Bollywood Influence on South Asian Menswear

13th January 2024

In the dazzling world of South Asian fashion, the influence of celebrities transcends mere stardom; it becomes a guiding force shaping trends and styles. For brides & grooms, a lot of their looks are inspired and idolised through what they’ve seen trending on Pinterest, popping up on TikTok, and plastered over all the celeb magazines.

We sat down with HIM Menswear, who are redefining the menswear shopping experience with their impeccable choice, style, and a dedicated showroom. They’ve told us the top 2024 Groomswear trends, and now they’re telling us about all the ‘Get The Look’ faves!

Keep an eye out for your celeb looks on the left, with the HIM Menswear customisable pieces on the right.

Virat Kohli's Wedding Look

The couple that kicked off the new-generation of celebrity weddings back in 2017. There isn’t a single person who didn’t fall in love with the elegance, simplicity and vibe of Anushka Sharma & Virat Kohli’s Tuscany wedding. To match the light & airy look of their destination wedding, Virat opted for a light pink, white & gold embroidered sherwani and shawl. On the base of the sherwani, there were elegant motifs of embroidery, similar to the HIM Menswear piece on the right.

In case you didn’t know, this is definitely the year that the shawls are back.

Ranveer Singh's Wedding Reception Look

It’s that wedding look from that wedding of the decade. We absolutely love the heavily embroidered sherwani look, which is perfect for any groom who wants to make a statement. Ranveer Singh wore this stunning look at his Bangalore wedding reception back in 2018, and we know it’s an evergreen statement look, especially as bold prints make a comeback as one of the top South Asian sherwani trends in 2024.

At HIM Menswear, all the looks are customisable. The dark blue sherwani can turn into a stunning black velvet base, or ivory, or golden.

Vicky Kaushal's Wedding Look

From the pagdi to the mojris, all available in their showroom, HIM Menswear are really giving us all the Vicky Kaushal feels from his wedding day back in 2021. Matching their Rajasthani wedding theme, which was an incredibly beautiful celebration at the Six Senses Fort Barwara, this entire look oozed charm and elegance.

Ranveer Singh's Mehndi Look

This ones all about the silhouette. Honestly, Ranveer Singh started quite a few trends with his unique wedding looks. For his Sindhi mehndi ceremony, a few videos of Ranveer went absolutely viral, where he was seen dancing with his friends & family in this gorgeous printed angarkha and maroon jacket.

Since then, we’ve seen a surge in this style of silhouette by many grooms. Jasmin, co-founder of HIM Menswear, says that grooms opting for an airy comfortable look absolutely love this style; it’s the most comfortable one to sit, stand and dance in.

Ranbir Kapoor in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar

A black sherwani is an absolute staple in any man’s wardrobe. In fact, it’s literally the LBD equivalent – can we get away with calling it an LBS (little black sherwani)?

Whilst we already knew it’s a staple, after seeing Ranbir Kapoor in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, that definitely confirmed it for all of us.

Dressed down for a more relaxed look on it’s own, or dressed up with a shawl and jewels to elevate into the perfect reception look for any groom.
