In all honesty, there’s tons of advice out there for brides & bridesmaids (guilty!), but the groom deserves just as much attention. Majority of the time, grooms will start off with their base outfit of a smart suit, and look at different ways to add some character to it. Some might go for funky shoes & a matching belt, whilst others might opt for a 3-piece with a waistcoat; we’re here to offer you inspiration and the ultimate guide to groom wedding accessories.
Our culture is so rich & wonderful when it comes to wedding celebrations This means there are often multiple outfits ranging from traditional wear, such as sherwani’s & kurta’s, to western wear, such as suits.
In this blogpost, we look at some of the ways to accessories the groom, groomsmen, and men in the bridal party, with Delilah’s Dressing Room.
When it comes to your wedding day, you want to wear an outfit that reflects your personality the best. For a bride, their options are endless, with different types of outfits, styles, colours, accessories & much more; but a groom has, traditionally, always followed suit of their partner. However, much more recently, we have loved seeing grooms take a more active interest in how they want to personalise & differentiate their looks, as well as, some extremely cool groomsmen coordination shots.
Let’s start with the basics of groom wedding accessories.
● Ramaal: Required for most traditional ceremonies, a ramaal is the perfect accessory to add character to your event. Tons of couples choose to differentiate each side of the family with different colours & prints.
● Waistcoat: The most comfortable and chic addition to any traditional or western outfit. Can be work with a full suit, or kurta for a more casual look.
● Pocket square: A pocket square is a fun decorative piece of fabric, which neatly folds into the your jacket pocket.
● Bowtie: Whether you’re accessorising a younger child, or a grown man, a bowtie is a must-have addition to any formal suit, to add a pop of colour or print to an outfit.
● Lapel pins: A small pin worn on clothing, often on the lapel of a jacket, to showcase your affiliation to either side of the family.
● Braces: Often made as fabric or leather straps, these are worn over the shoulders, used essentially to hold up trousers; but recently a more fun fashion statement.
● Cuff links: A small addition to the cuffs of your shirt, to showcase more of your personality in a subtle way.
This ramaal, pocket square & tie combo is the perfect look. A ramaal should usually be a solid colour, which can be re-work time and time again, with a printed pocket square and tie to break up the colour and bring the prints together.
If you’re having a Gurdwara wedding, we suggest opting for ‘bride’s side’ and ‘groom’s side’ ramaal’s for your guests, for the picture perfect moments.
When it comes to accessorising, you want to choose the right base colours, complementary lighter & darker shades, and contrasting shades if you’re feeling adventurous.
As the groom, the best way to curate the perfect accessories is by choosing a base colour off of your partner’s outfit. A sample swatch or shade is perfect, then you can overlay it with the right print that suits your vibe.
Whether it be pairing a neutral solid-colour bowtie with a printed suit, or a funky printed bowtie with a neutral suit, Delilah’s Dressing Room helps their clients create the perfect bespoke look to match your events.
A bowtie is such a versatile piece, and can be reworn for years to come, and is definitely the most fun formal addition to any outfit.
To capture the picture perfect shot, having an element of coordination between your bridesmaids and groomsmen is a must. The subtle elements of consistency will elevate your looks.
We love this bespoke bowtie & braces set, which adds a funky & tasteful look to your outfits. By picking out one of the shades within the printed bowtie, the whole look can come together perfectly.
