India-born & British-raised designer, Tracy Smith, is redefining contemporary luxury once again with the new MahaRani collection for The Naviya Edit.
The Naviya Edit is known for their bold, contemporary and timeless pieces, and we believe the MahaRani collection is their most decadent one yet. We spoke to Tracy about each piece in the collection, the inspiration, mood board & how she bought her vision to life.
Keep reading to explore the MahaRani collection and spot the piece which Tracy accurately describes as ‘Kim K meets Sridevi’.
MEET THE DESIGNER
Born in Kolkata, India and raised as Roman Catholic in Britain, Tracy Smith is passionate about bringing her two worlds together in pieces that can be worn by anyone on any occasion. You'll often spot Tracy opting for a mix & match look of her contemporary pieces.
At the heart of the MahaRani collection lies this stunning burnt orange 3-piece set. The mermaid skirt silhouette definitely catches our eye as the first statement in this piece – an absolutely beloved choice in fashion due to its flattering ability to enhance the natural contours of the body.
Paired with a ruched premium lycra blouse & skirt with statement chains around the hem: something that can definitely be worn on its own with a pair of trusty wide leg trousers for an indo-western look.
To top it off, we are obsessed with the sheer soft net detachable cape with intricate pearls, sequins & beadwork; which drapes and elevates the look to perfection.
We think of this as the contemporary navy blue ensemble of sophistication, exuding allure and undeniable grace; definitely one that is red carpet ready. This stunning contemporary set is an embodiment of a piece that is timeless, whimsical, and just a little bit daring.
A sweetheart neckline mesh corset adorned with floral embroidery, pearl, and beading details steals the spotlight. The corset’s tie-back style adds a touch of vintage charm. Paired with a dhoti pleated skirt featuring a hidden slit and embellished waist motif, it exudes sophistication.
Corset-style silhouettes have been around in the western wardrobe for decades; and so Tracy bought this to life with a Naviya twist with the most decadent set.
The light lilac Leila set is the epitome mermaid chic. The intricately adorned blouse features silver glass beads, pearls, and stone work on leaf motifs. A modern v-neck and cut-out waistline add flair, while mesh flare sleeves provide a graceful finish. Paired with a lilac mermaid-cut skirt, complete with a centre slit and large leaf motifs for added glam.
We can clearly see Tracy’s inspiration in pulling together a combination of fabrics, textures and silhouettes inspired by the Eastern and Western worlds.
Perfect for an intimate wedding welcome soirée, a romantic rendezvous, or even a grand gala. A truly enchanting piece.
A COMMON THEME
In the Naviya Edit MahaRani collection, each set can be dressed up and down according to the occasion. We live in a circular economy, where every outfit deserves to be worn more than once or twice; hats off to Tracy for curating each piece with the modern day consumer in mind.
Another common theme amongst The Naviya Edit is consistency in their quality and their comfort. Inspired by their best-selling co-ords, Flora elevates the entire MahaRani collection with this Princess Jasmine meets couture style ensemble.
Crafted from the finest fabrics, the blouse features a sheer halter neckline, scallop details and delicate floral work. Paired with glass beadwork embroidered wide leg bottoms to create the ultimate whimsical statement look; with the geometric motifs adding the Naviya edge.
Perfectly lightweight to dance the night away in style.
The Aurora ensemble truly embodies the East Meets West luxury contemporary Naviya style down to a tee. It embraces the beauty of tradition & culture with the excitement of innovation. To us, this piece is a celebration of individuality, style, and the timeless allure of The Naviya Edit pieces.
The asymmetric neckline lends a sense of modernity and drama, which is only exaggerated in all the best ways by the lightweight premium crepe fabrics & pearl embroidery.
The Avanti ensemble exudes confidence, luxury, and bronzed goddess vibes. A statement piece, crafted from soft satin fabrics, that effortlessly drapes the body with perfection.
We love the versatility of this set: you can enhance your look with the detachable net dupatta. Whether clipped at the trouser’s center and drape it over the shoulder – the choice is yours. Embrace the allure of multiple styling options with this exquisite co-ord set.
Curated with the perfect blend of a saree drape and anarkali flare in mind: Reya is a beautiful indo-western piece that captures the best of both worlds.
With it’s intricate sequin and pearl work on the bodice, the ensemble is entirely elevated with the beautifully dramatic cape. We love the sophistication in this look!
Last, but absolutely not least, is Sita. In Tracy’s words this is “inspired by divine energy and the beautiful gleam of every Rani”.
Curated using intricate embroidery, cutwork, and diamond shape motifs: the lehenga is truly a regal piece designed for a queen.
In 2022, Tracy started The Naviya Edit whilst working in the fashion industry in London. She saw an opportunity to bring her ethnicity and religion together because she was enticed by streetwear and modern cuts but loved the fabrics and details from the South Asian market.
“My style depends on my mood but I have a “wear whatever I want” attitude; to feel comfortable in it and for it to be a representation of my personality.”
