Farmhouse Wedding: Athiya Shetty & KL Rahul Tie The Knot!

24th January 2023

Actor Athiya Shetty & cricketer KL Rahul tied the knot in a beautiful intimate ceremony at Athiya’s father, Suniel Shetty’s, Khandala farmhouse. The pair lovingly posted “Today, with our most loved ones, we got married in the home that’s given us immense joy and serenity. With a heart full of gratitude and love, we seek your blessings on this journey of togetherness.” on their Instagram.

THE OUTFIT

For the wedding, Athiya & Rahul adorned beautiful complementary baby pink & cream tones. Athiya opted for heavy jewellery, which perfectly complemented her Anamika Khanna Chikankari lehenga; which took 10,000 hours to make! A true labour of love. Rahul complimented the look with a cream, light embroidery, sherwani.

The traditional embroidery style is born in Lucknow, India; and was previously introduced by Persian nobles. When translated, it literally means ‘thread’, which is the basis of the craftsmanship and decoration style. The technique is extremely labour-intensive, and refers to a specific style of delicate and artful hand embroidery. Traditionally, chikankari work was done on light/pastel fabrics, using white thread; however nowadays, chikankari work is common on matching fabrics and matching silk threads.

You may remember, this famous Priyanka Chopra & Nick Jonas announcement post? Priyanka is seen wearing a gorgeous vibrant yellow chikankari kurta for their Roka, by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla.

More recently, we’ve seen tons of celebs wearing chikankari outfits, but Athiya Shetty is one of the first to wear this craftmanship on her wedding day – and we’re obsessed. The minimal & elegant look was handmade, handwoven and made in silk with zardozi and jaali work. It also features a veil and dupatta made of silk organza replete with intricate handiwork.

Paired with a heavy choker & a centre-parted bun, it truly put together the entire bridal look perfectly. Athiya also opted for a natural makeup look, with subtle blush pink eyeshadow and nude pink lips. The happy couple were as candid as ever on their big day.

In an interview, designer Anamika Khanna, said “She added, “Athiya’s got extremely fine, subtle, and beautiful taste. I wanted to develop something special for her that was resonant with the fact that she was going to be the bride, but she was never going to be that bride for whom everything else takes over. She has a very strong personality, and I think she’s acutely aware of it.”

Her stylist, Akanksha Kamath said, “Athiya’s stylist Ami Patel and Athiya and I worked in tandem on the styling of the lehenga. I provided a few inputs on how she could drape the veil and dupatta. We kept it traditional and ethereal. Athiya is a soft bride and one that puts comfort first. So it was important that we kept that in the wedding lehenga too.

the ceremony

We’re really seeing a trend of home weddings for the Bollywood couples recently! The beautiful ceremony took place at Athiya’s fathers farmhouse, with a 70 person guest list of purely close family & friends.

As expected, all their loved ones, and especially Athiya’s father were extremely emotional during the beautiful ceremony.

Whilst there aren’t many pictures of the venue or the ceremony itself yet, scroll below for gorgeous snaps of the farmhouse. It’s also reported that the farmhouse was breathtakingly decorated in 300-400kg of white roses – WHAT!
