Commonly descended from North India, kaleere have a rich cultural significance and are considered auspicious in Indian weddings. They symbolise happiness, prosperity, and well wishes for the happy couple. It is believed that the sweet sound of the kaleerey bells wards off evil spirits and brings good luck to the newlyweds.
One of our favourite wedding traditions is definitely when kaleere are ‘jingled’ above your unmarried cousins and siblings. If elements of the kaleere fall off, it is said that the person it falls onto is next in line – kind of like throwing the bouquet!
More recently, kaleere have evolved in their materials and aesthetics. Here, we take a look at some brides who wore the prettiest kaleere at their wedding.
On her wedding ceremony, we saw Arpita Mehta wear the most stunning dainty kaleere in more of a champagne gold shade, to complement her outfit perfectly.
Another big trend has been the personalised kaleere trend. This bride opted for these stunning airplane charms, as a tribute to the pairs love for travelling.
This thoughtful bride opted for parrot kaleere, which have some hidden significance. In feng shui, a parrot symbolises positive energy and good luck – the perfect start to married life.
To match her lighter coloured chura and silver jewellery, this bride opted for a silver chura which looked extremely elegant – we love it.
Parrot kaleere are definitely trending! This bride opted for parrots, bells, and seashells on her kaleere – which all had a different special meaning to her.
These minimal gold kaleere look extremely elegant and chic – there aren’t enough words to describe them. They’re a beautiful statement in themselves.
We knew that mirrorwork was a lehenga trend, but we absolutely love to see it on these kaleere. You would think it would be too much, but it’s actually the perfect amount of glitz and glam.
The larger the kaleere, the heavier they get. This bride smartly opted for pompom kaleere which look extremely fun, without being too heavy either.
No one does colourful quite like Papa Don’t Preach – which has been proved by these stunning colourful kaleere. Perfect for the bride who wants colour to be injected throughout her entire wedding.
Trendsetter Alia Bhatt opted for personalised kaleere charms as well, perfect for her simplistic wedding theme.
If you are looking to make a statement, then these blue feather kaleere are absolutely perfect. There’s so much going on in these, and we love it.
We have seen floral jewellery trending, specifically on haldi ceremonies, and so this floral kaleere trend comes as no surprise to us!
Another unique trend, which we don’t know will necessarily stick, is the mini kaleere wedding trend. What do you think? Yay or nay?
These mini white pearl kaleere are super subtle and add a whole new dimension to any bridal look. Perfect for the bride opting for a neutral look.
If you are opting for a destination wedding, you will definitely want to consider these stunning seashell kaleere.
This bride was super unique and opted for their initials and images of each other on the kaleere. We have also seen other couples opt for images of their loved ones.
